HoNua Kai

Review by Dave, 7/20/2018

We had a wonderful time!!
First, the TSA Pre-check was very helpful.  We almost felt guilty getting in the short line.

Maui
We actually liked Maui even better than Oahu.  It was kind of like the North Shore of Oahu with better shipping and restaurant options.  The Honua Kai Resort was very nice.  We also enjoyed the easy access to the beach.  The snorkeling at this location was even better (more fish) than what I experienced at Turtle Bay.  The Road to Hana was a great experience.  We decided to go on a group tour through Valley Isle Excursions.  I’m sure the private tour would have been even better, but we decided it was a bit out our price range.

Our vacation was exactly what we were hoping for and more.  We are already trying to figure out how to save money and go again in a couple of years.

Thank you for all of your help putting this together.  We will definitely use your service in the future as well as recommend it to our friends.

Hi Kim, Dave & Team,

We absolutely LOVED our trip and the Honua Kai!!!  We would make the long flights to go back in a heartbeat!! I could probably ramble on for a long long time about how wonderful it was, but will try to summarize some highlights below!

The resort was perfect.  We wouldn’t hesitate to go straight back there next time! A great location (we didn’t mind being at the end-ish of kaanapali) as everything was a quick drive.  We loved having a kitchen and even found a little fish market to buy fresh catch and grill at “home”. The resort had great amenities (the quiet pool, the fitness center, the grill areas, dukes restaurant, complimentary/ inexpensive beach rentals, etc). The grounds were meticulously maintained and so fun to walk around.  Parking was also very easy.  And let’s talk about the view from our room!!

Our room was clean (and it was nice to have housekeeping every other day), seemed completely up to date and kitchen was stocked modestly, but great for what we needed.

The beach area was narrow and a little Steep, but we still enjoyed and there was always plenty of room for us to find a spot. We liked walking down the beach (toward the Westin) as it got a little wider and flat that direction.

We snorkeled off the beach at the resort one or two days and were pleasantly surprised at all we could see!

Dukes restaurant at the resort was great - they provided drink service at the pools and we enjoyed dinner and happy hour there a few nights. Nice and convenient.

There were A LOT of families and children around, but we didn’t mind much, as they spent most of their time at the other pool with the water slide and lazy river.

We actually didn’t do ANY excursions (mostly because we were planning to do a sunset sail/ dinner but weather got in the way) but A few highlights below:

Sunrise at Haleakala (we just drove, as we had done the bikes last time we were in Maui many years ago)
Hiking the Kapalua trail (it’s more of a stroll)
Dinner at Merriman’s
Lunch at Mama’s Fish House
Watching the surfers on the north shore

Thanks for planning such a fun and memorable trip! I’m already itching to go back!!
