Azul Beach

Review by Jon, 7/31/2018

Overall, we had a great time together as family and enjoyed our trip.  We are glad we went as it was by far the most spontaneous vacation we've ever done.

Excursions - We did go to Xel-Ha.  It was amazing and something we won't forget.  We booked with the Amstar Rep at the resort who handled the airport transportation.  He ended up being about $20 cheaper than the other 2 guys on the resort.

Pros - The time from the airport to the hotel was very short.  This allowed us to take advantage of more time at the resort on the day we arrived as well as the day we left.  We had the adjoining rooms for us and the kids, and that was amazing.  The rooms themselves were very big, clean, simple and nice.  Heather stated these were the nicest rooms that we have ever stayed at of the 9 different Cancun/Riviera Maya hotels we've been to.  The workers there were very nice and accommodating.  The week we got there, the hotel initiated a policy that no one can "reserve" pool chairs with their stuff if they will not be there.  They stated that at 7 am security would go around removing towels and articles if no one was there, or if you left towels/items for a long period of time security would remove to free up the chairs (my opinion is that every hotel should make this policy).  This reduced some of the huge issues we've experienced at other hotels where everyone got up at 5:30 am to mad scramble to put their towel on a chair.  Now people still did this and wasn't strictly enforced by security, but at 9 am we were still able to get a few chairs.  The pools were fantastic.  Big, clean, and had a couple of nice swim up bars.  The hotel didn't feel like it was ever really crowded.  The food was great.  Definitely in the top 50% of hotels we've been to.  The Mexican Restaurant was the best.  They did do a really cool Mexican Fiesta on the beach Thursday night.  It was beautiful with decorations, entertainment, food and lighting.  They had entertainment every night off the main lobby with performers.  Our girls really enjoyed this and the entertainers were good singers.  The beer and liquor were top shelf as well.  They had a good buffet.  The gym was small but it did the trick and had enough for Heather and I to work out.  The hotel was beautiful and could tell they took a lot of pride in the maintenance and appearance of the grounds.  I did like how the hotel had touch screen TVs at various locations in the hotel that you could look to see what was going on, or quickly get information you needed.
